Sweet Garden Farm
looking ahead
The 100-odd grape vines I've planted in 4 varieties are doing well. So far, the Marquette varietal is best suited to cultivation here, but fingers crossed for the Vidal to catch up. My thought is to run a pick-you-own vineyard here for wine-making enthusiasts, but who knows? Corks could be flying a few years down the road.

Hard Cider is in the offing, but we're still learning how the regulations work. To get growing on this idea, I've ordered Tolman Sweet, Cortland and Wealthy apple trees - the beginnings of our cider orchard. This should grow well with the 500 black currant bushes I planted 10 years ago at Redland Orchard. -

update July 2013:
200 apple trees and 35 pear trees are now growing nicely. We are presently researching all the regulations and building options. Slowly but surely, this idea is migrating from the drawing board to the farm!

July 2014:
MORE New cider apples planted this spring: Cox Orange Pippin and Dolgo Crab. McCannell Cider is moving ahead - stay tuned!

Whatever we end up doing here, we want to provide a productive, creative and friendly experience for our friends and customers. Come share the good things we enjoy so much.
